Thursday Thud

Thursday Thud---yuck. Our household is sick! For weeks both of you babies have been struggling with chest congestion, colds, “eye gunk,” sneezing, sore throats, possible earaches (hard to figure with babies until pain becomes extreme, and with you, Buddha, even then it is difficult, you are a tough little sucker!). And now, Mommy and Daddy have totally been wiped out—same symptoms, additionally extremely sore, sore throats and complete exhaustion---at same time some of Mommy’s clients have reportedly been diagnosed with strep throat and mono! Yikes—Mommy and Daddy both work in virtual germ-infested environments because of working so closely with people (no, that is not a slam or intended slight on folks Mommy and Daddy attempt to help----and we have to be sensitive and cautious about betraying confidentiality and observing  regulatory restraints and laws pertaining to protection of people’s personal information and civil rights----it is simply an accurate recording of our exposure, and hence yours, to infectious disease); we have to be careful with ourselves, the people we serve, and of course our most precious cargo—the two of you!!! And with your recent ear surgery, Buddha, and your recent bout with a broken arm, Bodhi, we are extra sensitive to your susceptibilities---it all has impacted our Thursday with a thud!

Our morning officially began with early, intermittent rising of the two of you, with Daddy getting up and settling with you in our study, falling asleep in an impromptu slumber party, then re-locating each of you back to your beds (actually, Buddha, you insisted on cuddling with MommyJ).  After such restless attempts at sleep, you again awakened quite early, Jude Liam, so you and Daddy made coffee, watched “Hop” (for what viewing Daddy has now lost countJ), and eventually awakened Mommy with a cup of coffee and a decision that you and Daddy would go to the college (Daddy had a report he needed to turn in) while sweet baby Emilia slept in.

Mommy got up and got you dressed, Mister Buddha, and you of course looked like a little stud with your madras shorts and “Dude” shirt and new tennis shoesJ, and we motored to Daddy’s office; while there, you had an opportunity to engage with several of Daddy’s good friends from work, Megan, Sarah, Minnie, Jerry, Dan, Merriam, and of course we visited your beloved Sister Kelly (from whom you scored four pieces of candy---one for you, your sister Bodhi, Mommy and Daddy---hmmmm, Daddy never got hisJ)---while you “inspected” Daddy’s office, Daddy returned a phone message from Indianapolis Channel 8 News and learned there is interest in doing a profile story of Daddy relating to ethics.

We returned home in time for Mommy to finish getting ready for work (we came bearing additional gifts besides the candy you received from you sister Kelly—we stopped and purchased some ice tea and “bug juice” for you and your sister). Daddy had to immediately leave to make a doctor’s appointment, and when Daddy returned we all finished lunch so the two of you could settle in for a short nap before being taken to Grandma’s house (she was planning a special treat for the two of youJ). While you napped, Daddy attempted to quickly mow the yard and just as Mommy was preparing to leave for work, you awakened from your VERY SHORT nap, Buddha, and came outside to ride your tricycle in the rear drive while Daddy VERY HURRIEDLY finished mowing; shortly after you appeared outside, of course, your beautiful sister came looking for her Mommy and Daddy and brotherJ.

Daddy got the two of you dressed again in your gorgeous outfits Mommy had you in (Bodhi, you wore an adorable yellow (your little brother’s favorite colorJ) sun-dress Daddy recently picked out for you while shopping at an Old Navy store.

Daddy took the two of you to Grandma, who was awaiting with you with her special beautiful smile from ear to ear reserved for her precious little angels (she conspired with Mommy to secretly prepare a small swimming pool in her backyard for the two of you—Daddy assured Grandma Mommy had secreted in your diddy bag your swimming suitsJ) and Grandma assured Daddy she had lots of fun planned for the two of you—planting flowers, feeding squirrels, unlocking Jude’s “pipes” where he hides his kisses from everyone except MommyJ. Just before leaving, Grandma discovered while hugging you, Buddha, that you had some blood on your right ear and your blonde hair---Daddy immediately joined Grandma in concern, though Mommy and Daddy had been told by your ear surgery Monday you might have some slight bleeding from your ears related to your surgery Monday. Daddy immediately contacted the doctor’s office and received a return phone call affirming some slight bleeding from your ears could be expected. Wow—Mommies and Daddies and Grandmas get gray hair from these episodes in child rearingJ.

Daddy then went back home to finish some yard work and shower and then off to work himself, and didn’t get back to pick the two of you up until after 9 p.m. Bodhi, you immediately called Daddy’s attention to a “boo boo” on your face where you had tripped over Grandma’s ottoman in the living room. We thanked Grandma and gave her goodbye kisses (you initially refused Grandma her goodbye kiss, Buddha, telling her you only had five kisses in your “pipe” and they were all for Mommy, but Grandma showed you she knew how to unlock your “pipe” so she could get a kiss---wow, you guys are characters!) and literally before we got to the end of her street, both of you were asleep in your child seats—Grandma had succeeded in entertaining all the energy out of each of youJ.

Daddy got us home safely, and carried each of you upstairs to your beds, and anxiously awaited your Mommy getting home from work (which thank goodness was shortly after we got home) so we could all collapse from illness and exhaustion. It really was a thud day for Mommy and Daddy, but Grandma salvaged it as another special day for two special baby angelsJ. “Night, night!”
