One of our favorite musical
groups, Chicago, had a hit song with that title and lyric, “Saturday In The
Park…I think it was the fourth of July.” Well, it was a far cry from July 4th
(it was a cool May 25th, 2013), but we had an enjoyable full
Saturday of fun!
Daddy’s Saturday began as usual,
even though it was Memorial Day weekend, Daddy had to get up early and off to
his Saturday domestic violence intervention activist facilitator job.
Immediately thereafter, shortly after ten a.m. Daddy was home and Mommy had
each of you dressed and ready to go!
We first made a run to the bank
so we would have a little cash to take with us to Farmer’s Market (where the
two of you are recognized regulars:)).
While at our friendly bank, the teller who always recognizes both of you asked
if it was ok for the two of you to have a sucker—that was a difficult decision :). So, we got our
spending money (and two suckers) and headed home to get our carriage and our
gear :).
We packed up our carriage with
some fruit, fruit snacks, and water as well as several blankets and an umbrella
so we could head downtown for our visit to Farmer’s Market. Then, of course, we packed up our precious
cargo, Emilia Bodhi and Jude Liam :),
and off on our adventure! Mommy had an appointment and she agreed to catch up
with us at the park later.
We made our way to the Farmer’s
Market where our market proprietor friends greeted us as we purchased a small
strawberry-rhubarb pie and a zucchini bread, and where we chatted with our
friend Mary Bilby who a week ago gave you, Ms. Bodhi, a complementary miniature
sunflower plant to offset the trauma of your broken arm (Mommy and you planted
it that afternoon when we returned from the marketJ). She told us next weekend
she would have for sale some miniature tomato plants which were ideal for
“fairy gardens.” Daddy asked her to hold one for us and we would make certain
to see her again next weekend :).
We next headed to the park
(Foster Park) where there was an all-day concert activity scheduled. It was a
local talent concert series sponsored in part by Mommy’s cousin, Jordan (who we
all saw and talked with). Mommy joined us after her appointment and she brought
with her lunch from Subway—so we picnicked and enjoyed the concert music—well
we enjoyed some of the concert music, some of the gothic rap was a little
beyond Daddy’s level of appreciation :).
We also met another of the concert’s sponsors, Patrick, a very nice young man
and a friend of Jordan’s. We enjoyed ourselves for hours, alternating concert
appreciation with playing at the children’s playground. Mommy brought along
Arlo and Allie, after making a quick return trip home to change your clothes
after you projectile vomited everywhere (including on yourself) Ms. Bodhi,
after which you seemed perfectly fine. Many admirers of our dogs came along to
greet us and make friends with Allie and Arlo, including a fellow we all
witnessed being arrested a short time later (apparently for a drug violation).
By late afternoon, and of course
after enjoying some ice cream from Crazy Jay’s Ice Cream Parlor across the
street from the park, we made our way home and settled in for the evening.
Daddy could tell by evening that the effects of a cool, and occasionally damp,
Saturday in the park was going to have an effect on a developing sore throat
and chest cold/sneezing cold which later truly made Daddy more than ready for
an early “night, night.” Fortunately, the two of you seemed spared of the cold
symptoms (you’ve had them for at least the previous week), though Mommy started
to show signs of falling under the weather too :(
Saturday evening came to a close,
with a certainty we enjoyed a full, fun Saturday together, blessed to have the
love of one another and our beautiful family (oh, by the way Mommy, both Bodhi
and Buddha told me today they want a baby brother named Gabriel Quinn:). Sleep on that :).
