Welcome To The Monkey House is a title of a book by Kurt
Vonnegut, Jr. Daddy’s favorite author. He was a gifted writer, a social critic,
a remarkable story-teller, a comic genius, a visionary, an intellectual of
incredible, if sometimes acerbic, mental acuity. Daddy wants both of you to
read all his works when developing and disciplining your own intellects.
Today’s entry is “Welcome To The Monkey House” for reasons
not directly tied to the works of Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. Mommy and Daddy routinely
refer to the two of you as little (precious) monkeys, an expression not at all
intended to be disparaging. Rather, we call you both monkeys as expressions of
our unconditional love for both of you, even when you are behaving like
out-of-control monkeysJ.
Mommy even has a bedtime ritual where she chants “One, two, three, four---who
let the monkeys out the door,” which is a signal to each of you to march
upstairs and get ready for “night, night.” We all laugh at this ritual, and at
each other, as we march up the stairs.
So Daddy chose “Welcome To The Monkey House” as our blog
title tonight because we are indeed welcoming a new member to our monkey house!
Welcome to the “Monkey House” Allie, our new Australian Cattle Dog! Mommy first
met Allie (named such as she was found in an alley) while doing volunteer work
at our humane society. Indeed, we had all met Allie, and as the date upon which
the shelter would “put her down” if by then not adopted arrived, Mommy
discusses with us and we all agreed we would welcome her to our “Monkey House.”
So today Mommy and the two of you went to the humane society animal shelter and
formally adopted Allie, and she will come home to live with us tomorrowJ!
Later in the evening today, the other special event occurred
which was all of us going to Sister Kelly’s to celebrate Brother Aaron’s
birthday. Happy birthday, brother Aaron. We got him a three ton suv/truck
hydraulic jack (which Sister Kelly assured us he really wantedJ). While there we
visited with the nice people at the party and enjoyed a feast of a dinner, and
you, especially, Bodhi met a three year old little latina girl named Sammi, the
daughter of one of Daddy’s colleagues at work named Luci. The two of you became good friends and played
and played; you were preoccupied with Aaron’s inflated birthday balloon,
Buddha, which he sent home with youJ.
All-in-all, we all had a full and exciting day! Again,
happy, happy birthday, Brother Aaron! As we settle in for “night, night” we are
all excited about the arrival of tomorrow and picking up and bringing home our
new family member—welcome to the monkey house, AllieJ!!!
