Today is our busy day of preparation for our open house.
Mommy and Daddy spent the morning huggin’ and kissin’ our babies, ‘cause we
knew we would be “shipping you both out” at noon to spend the night with
Grandma (Buddha) and GiGi (Bodhi). Though we both look forward to our evening
with friends and celebrating Mommy’s Master’s Degree achievement and putting
Mommy’s creative genius in decorating our home on display, we know we will be
having withdrawal missing our Princess and Prince!
Mommy busied herself with last minute cleaning, and she had
a list for Daddy to complete as well. So, we worked, and we worked, and we
worked…J.
Come evening time, we were settled with fresh homemade
potato soup, cheeses and crackers, grapes, tortilla chips, fancy little turkey
treats, rum cake, and miniature cupcakes
(cupcakes courtesy of Sister Kelly). We also offered a broad range of wine and
beer imported from Baltimore (where Daddy went to Graduate School at The Johns
Hopkins University---one of two beers famously reminiscent of Daddy’s hard
studies---Schaffer beer (courtesy of Brother Aaron and Brother Cory), the other
beer is National Bohemian---but we can’t find it anywhere close to usL).
The memorable story of the rum cake will always be this:
Mommy and Buddha come downstairs after awakening (Mommy was up until 2:00 a.m.
making two rum cakes, one of which turned out a presentation disaster, as it
crumbled when she attempted to place it on a plate, the other one turned out
perfect and was on display in our beautiful dining room). They both notice that
Bodhi is hiding under a blanket, so they pretend not to know where she is and
start calling out her name. They walk into the dining room, and Mommy instantly
notices the rum cake clear glass cover is off the cake and a chunk is missing from
the top as though someone had just dipped a small hand into it---and yes! When
Mommy, with a confused Buddha following on her heels, goes into the living room
and lifts the blanket, she discovers Princess Bodhi eating rum cake!!! J.
Oh my golly!! JJ!!

We enjoyed (in spite of the raid on the rum cake) a
wonderful evening with Rita and Terry, Vivian and Rudy, Judy and Sarge, Sharon
and Hawk, Marcia and Jerry, Anabel and Charlie, Jane and Gary, Sister Kelly and
Brother Aaron, Brother Sean Franky, Susan, Ray, Gabby, and Janet, Hope, and
Jerry Hurlock. Mommy and Daddy shared concerns for those invited that didn’t
make it to the open house, still we enjoyed a wonderful evening of fellowship,
friendship, and delightful conversations! Mommy’s famous potato soup became
more famous and yielded calls for recipes that Daddy is charged with
delivering. Mommy was graciously given
some beautiful gifts from our wonderful guests, and though exhausted when the
evening ended, we were moved to plan another get-together of our family and
friends, with hopes we can all make it for an opportunity to give thanks for
true friends and recognize our many blessings!
“Night, night,” family and friends, and especially “night,
night” with all our love little Emilia and Jude. We thoroughly enjoyed our
festive evening, and we anxiously await tomorrow to be with our precious
babies!!!
