From West Walnut to West Baden

Today was the commencement of our adventure to French Lick Spring Resort Hotel (next to West Baden), for Daddy to attend his college faculty program chair conference. We got off to a rough start, Daddy’s head was literally in the downstairs toilet minutes before we left---Daddy just plainly overheated, was sweating profusely and became nauseous and had to throw up—yuck!
Putting that quickly behind us, we were off and of course made a pass through the McDonald’s drive-thru to pick up a quick breakfast for all. Even Daddy managed to eat a little bit, and Buddha your appetite is becoming legendary—you not only ate your breakfast, but then ate what was left of your sister’s after she decided she didn’t want all of hersJ.

Our trip carried us through beautiful southern Indiana, skirting the outside of Bloomington, south through Bedford and further south through Mitchell (home of one of Daddy’s heroes, Gus Grissom the Air Force pilot and astronaut—and also home to Daddy’s favorite state park, Spring Mill State Park), then further south through the small communities of Orleans and Paoli (Mommy had never been in this part of southern Indiana and was surprised to see the ski slope and lodge outside of Paoli) then on through West Baden to French Lick and our luxury hotel. To say the resort hotel is luxurious is an understatement (both Mommy and you, Bodhi, were especially taken by the beauty of our room and the soft touch of our bed sheetsJ), it is a famous resort hotel dating back to the early 1900’s and a popular resort for Chicago gangsters. It reminded Daddy of the hotel in the movie The Shining—spooky!

Daddy had to get on immediately to conference activities, so we settled in our room and then Mommy was off with the two of you for your own adventure. It started with a visit to a nearby indoor water park, the two of you could not stop talking about wanting to go swimming from the moment we left West Walnut. While having a blast at the water park, Mommy suffered the scare parents fear most, she momentarily lost sight of the two of you as you went to go down a water slide; instead, the two of you dashed around the slide into another area of the water park and those few seconds seemed like a horror-filled forever until Mommy spotted you and regained controlL.

After the water park adventure (and it was indeed an adventure!---Bodhi, you and your mother were even frightened by the steep ascent to the top of the southern Indiana hill atop which the water park sits—you both were afraid the car would roll backwardsJ--and you, Jude Liam, thought it was just part of the adventureJ), all of you hooked up with Aunt Debbie and joined her and Uncle Mike and visited cousin Abby and baby Sophie at Abby’s home. You were treated to dinner and the company of Aunt Debbie and Uncle Mike whom the two of you simply adore! You had fun, and it made for a nice evening while Daddy had to attend the conference.

In fact, it was after nine in the evening before Daddy was free, and that was about the time all of you were heading back to the hotel, so Daddy met you at the car at the lobby entrance area and helped carry sleeping babies upstairs to the hotel room. The two of you slept together (like babies) on a fold-away, and Mommy and Daddy cuddled and drifted off to sleep in our luxury bed in our luxury room in our luxury hotel. And Daddy managed some kissing and hugging in with the cuddling with MommyJ.
