Going Green

Today was a day spent mostly with mommy and visitors. Bodhi, you were decked out in a beautiful green and white striped summer pull-over dress and Jude, you were dressed in a green pull-over polo shirt and Bermuda shorts, you both were adorable as usual! Daddy attended a program to qualify for a portable crib for Jude and came home mid-morning to set it up for Jude to have a safe place to sleep (the other crib was damaged); then Daddy had to go to college to get some work done in anticipation of summer school starting next week L. Daddy wishes he had more time for family before getting back into the teaching schedule. Yesterday, Daddy took both of you on what he called a “wagon-train adventure” (pulling you both in the wagon) all around the “trails” to and from Foster park; when he got home, we all had lunch, daddy made grilled cheese sandwiches…yum! And this brings us to the Fat Tuesday story from Daddy’s memories…

Fat Tuesday, A childhood memory or experience:  Daddy Entry Number  Three

When I was a little boy, my mom would make me grilled cheese sandwich lunches, usually with soup, and almost always as a treat, accompanied by a chocolate milkshake.  Daddy loved chocolate milk, and I was told later in life that when I was very little I wouldn’t eat anything and our doctor told Grandma Holsapple (daddy’s mommy) to give me chocolate milk if that is what I would drink…so yum, yum, yum, I had lots of chocolate milk, and especially loved chocolate milkshakes (so did Grandpa Holsapple, daddy’s daddyJ). I still have fond memories of having my grilled cheese sandwich lunches and watching television while I ate. I was surrounded by a loving, nurturing (though perhaps not the most nourishing) environment, and to this day have memories of feeling safe and happy. Sometimes as a young boy, I would spend time with my cousins from Vincennes and Bicknell (where Grandma Holsapple is from), and my cousins’ families were very poor, so we often had on regular basis bologna sandwiches and navy beans to eat. Funny, to this day I love both bologna and navy beans and think back on the happy times I spent with my cousins, and the love and nurturing I received from so many relatives (Grandma Holsapple came from a huge family---poor but generally loving and close-knit). I have always been inspired by such memories to desire for my children to have as many loving family and friends in their lives as possible—and we (and Ryan, Kelly, Sean, Emilia, and Jude) are blessed in that respect. Mommy and I are so thankful for our loving family and friends! So yesterday, when Daddy and Bodhi were having lunch together, watching one of Bodhi’s Nickelodeon shows, eating our grilled cheese sandwiches (Mommy ate hers upstairs while nursing Jude), I was thinking of my many good memories, and of the many memories we will have together, and hoping your memories will be as special to you, and that you and Jude will always remember how very loved you are and will be forever! And I hope you both will come to understand for yourselves, it’s not the food (even though we all have our favorites)---it’s the company J
