The Morning After’

The day after the election was both a celebratory and reflective day. Mommy and Daddy discussed our thoughts and emotions over the over-all election results, especially the re-election of President Obama. Mommy asked Daddy to compose a commentary on our shared philosophy and interest in the election outcomes, so that someday the two of you would reflect on our thinking and include it in your own formation of judgment and analysis.

Daddy’s response was (and is) direct and quite simple. Read Mommy’s beautifully crafted Facebook response to one of her republican friends. Daddy stands by that decision, her commentary cannot be improved upon…

Just an alternative view, since you did post on fb (love ya). You, I, and women close to us, may never personally choose to have an abortion, period. Or, we may one day be faced with a scenario that unless faced personally, you don’t know what you would choose…I can say for certain if my little girl was raped and impregnated at, let’s say 13, I would want her to terminate her pregnancy (and that could be by use of the day after pill-which I don’t know if it’s even still available)…her Daddy would enact justice on the rapist (but that’s getting off track). Or, what about the 14 year old girl who is impregnated by her father, or the situation in which a mother is told if she carries out with her pregnancy she won’t live to raise her other children (in my case, my “older” husband would be left with the monumental task of raising two toddlers by himself). Now you may be thinking these are rare scenarios, but I personally have dealt with each of these scenarios in my short career. My point is I find it fascinating that the same political party, (Republicans) whom doesn’t want “BIG” government, wants to make such an intimate and personal choice for women and their family. This choice should be made between a woman and her spiritual beliefs, and her doctor(s) with her spouse or significant other. I also find it fascinating that the same political party that likes to argue that too many families are reliant on government assistance, is the same party that wants these women, despite their financial inability to provide for themselves, let alone a child, wants these same women to carry out their pregnancies and not assist them in feeding them (how is that moral?). You can’t have it both ways. Either you want women to carry out their pregnancies despite their ability to feed and care for them, or you don’t. I’m a strong advocate for adoption, but that’s not always an option for everyone or for everyone’s individual situation (as I mentioned a few).

Now I personally find it interesting that even today we have to be talking about equal pay for equal work, but the sad truth is, we do and we are. The position that exploiting women by paying them less for the same work men do is a “business decision” is immoral and sad! I want an even playing field for both my children. After all, for a political party that advocates for two-parent households, who understand that women these days HAVE to work, but want women, specifically, mother’s to go home and cook dinner (then return back to work on a flex schedule), you’d think they would want to reward them by at least paying them what they earn… but they don’t. Again, how is that moral?

It comes down to this, really, a recognition that politics and all matters of reason should require critical thinking and analysis and commitment to stand on defensible principle. Mommy and Daddy have beloved friends who are stalwart republicans, Uncle T. Wilson and Uncle Rudy, our state representative and friend Mike Karickhoff, daddy’s colleague and friend Jerry Miller, among the notable. We love and admire our friendship and friends, and respectfully disagree on a number of counts of reasoning and analysis; in some instances we do agree. Government and politics seem incredibly corrupted and lacking in transparency for politicians of all political party affiliation.
Essentially it comes down to an assessment and agreement with fundamental philosophy and patriotism and perceived self-best-interest. The national republican party is broken, functionally incapable of survival as it presently exists, a subject of agreement with the likes no less of Jeb Bush and others. The principle platform is an expression of pro-choice extremism, like it’s most dominant current caricature in the form of the “Tea Party” which asserts draconian, punitive, war-like answers for serious, and valid, social issues facing our society and world. It is unabashedly misogynistic and elitist. And that’s that.

So, we celebrated the re-election of a tolerant, socially progressive, and imperfect President Barrack Obama---not a Muslim, not a socialist, not a communist, not anti-American, not the end of life as we know it. We celebrated the defeat of United States Senator candidates Akin and Murdock—malignant incarnations of the heart and soul of a desperate and extremist bent once-proud republican heritage. We celebrated the election of our friend republican State Representative Mike Karickhoff. And we celebrated living as free citizens of the greatest nation on earth, with the promise of a better tomorrow for our two precious resources—Emilia Bodhi and Jude Liam.

Someday (both of you “voted” with Mommy yesterday), the two of you will fully understand your responsibilities as citizens of America and the world and your Mommy and Daddy are presently confident you will exercise those responsibilities with reason and compassion. Yesterday we exercised our love, especially, for the two of you, and Sister Kelly and Brother Aaron, and Brother Sean Franky, and Brother Ryan and Sister Holly and our fellow citizens. Now we pray for peace and prosperity.

Yesterday was an important day of duty for all citizens. Today is our celebration and our important day of parenting. And sharing with the two of you a matter of serious import for which today you are too young to comprehend. But in tomorrows that lie ahead…you are our greatest hopeJ.

PS  Mommy just wants to reiterate, my response was specific to only two important issues.  There are several, and as a whole, we believe that currently the Democratic Party moves closer to enacting social justice.  I however believe, you, Ms. Bodhi, will be the creator and leading activist for a NEW third party… one that more accurately addresses the needs of our society.  Let’s just hope you have inherited your Daddy’s beautiful talent for writing…and not your Momma’s ha/ha  Buddha, you with your athletic charming self can pass out flyers and knock on doors for your sister’s movement hee/hee

After dinner play-doh time :)

Bodhi, you could play with play-doh for hours, Buddha, you play for about 45 minutes and then you are done hee/hee :)

Mommy picked out some tree branches Daddy cut down from our neighbor's tree ha/ha!  Daddy cut branches down so that we would have a clear view of the Seiberling Mansion...he could have just waited a few days for the leaves to fall on their own, anyway, I picked out some perfect branches :)

I spray painted them, wrapped all the branches together to appear as though it's actually a tree, then poured plaster and rocks into a planter to secure it.  Now, I have to purchase an Alice In Wonderland book to hang the pages from the branches with ribbon, tidy up the top of the planter, add some lights, and add a "G" and "H" to the planter as well.  It'll be our "book tree."  Mommy LOVES trees :)

Election Day!

After about an hour of play this morning...and after several cups of coffee for Momma, we all got cleaned up and headed to our polling place to cast our vote :)  Jude, you were excited, Bodhi, you've voted before and you weren't all that interested hee/hee The ladies that took Mommy's ID told us that your Daddy had already voted and said they were expecting the two of you (Daddy must talk about you two non-stop everywhere he goes hee/hee).

You both walked in chanting, "Obama! Obama!"  It was quite funny, especially when observing all the "Non-Obama supporters" faces bahahaha!  After we voted, Bodhi, you inserted the ballot into the machine, and then we headed to Aunt Ti's.  Mommy's been worried about Aunt Ti, she had an irregular brain scan which showed she had frothy bubbles on her brain :(  Well, Mommy told Aunt Ti she had a bubbly personality, but Mommy is SO VERY happy to report, Aunt Ti has a normal brain hee/hee well, as normal as Aunt Ti's brain can be.  Aunt Ti was never worried, Mommy on the other hand has been sick with worry.

After Aunt Ti's we came home, ate lunch, and then took a nap.  Mommy painted a picture frame and some tree branches while you two napped.  Mommy is enjoying some fun, easy craft projects for a change :)  After naps, Aunt Bethie dropped by to pick up some pillows Mommy was getting rid of, and she of course ate you to up with love and attention.  You two were being crazy little boogers so Aunt Bethie didn't get to squish you two as much as she probably wanted to :)

After Aunt Bethie left, Mommy fixed dinner...chicken noodles, mashed potatoes, and corn, yum! Daddy works late tonight, so he didn't get to eat dinner with us.  We were all sitting at the dining room table when Grandpa and Great Grandma Penny showed up.  Grandpa brought you homemade seafoam candy, which is incredibly rich!! I mean rich!!! You two ate a little piece and oh lord!  You two were bouncing off the walls, jumping off of furniture (despite Mommy's warnings), jumping on each other, screaming, you two lost your minds!  Luckily for Daddy the sugar high was wearing off when he arrived home from work.  You two crashed big time hee/hee Mommy likes it when you crash, bedtime is so much simpler :)

Mommy and Daddy are now watching the election results as they come in, and Buddha, tonight you are sleeping in your big boy bed for the first time :)  You voted, it's only right that you get to sleep in your big boy bed... you've been begging Mommy for the past several months.  Hopefully it goes well and you aren't swinging from the ceiling fan in the morning.  Mommy put the gate up and listened to see if you got up when I left the room.  I think you were so excited, you knew you had to stay in bed and be a good boy or you'd be back in your crib :)  So far, so good!!!   Sweet dreams my sweet babes.  You practiced democracy today, and you two were the cutest voters ever!

Mommy sent this video to everyone afterwards :)

Aunt Bethie sent this back to us ha/ha :)

"I'll be good Momma!"

"Sweet Dreams Momma, love you to the moon back and too!"

Monday Fun Day

Mommy luckily woke up this morning ha/ha!  Mommy had decided to go to bed last night after talking to Aunt Ti on the phone, a little earlier than usual,  but then I changed my mind and tried to get one last task done before calling it a day...big mistake.  Mommy was reaching to get a big glass jar and lid off of Daddy's bookcase when the lid smacked Mommy in the forehead, above my eyebrow.  Mommy blacked out and had blood everywhere.  It hurt horribly, so after the bleeding stopped, I finally retired to bed :0

Anyway, we played and enjoyed each other's company this morning.  You two were being incredibly sweet to one another :)  Our morning and afternoon were pretty routine.  You two danced your little hearts out while Mommy prepared lunch, and then went down for an afternoon nap.  Mommy and Aunt Dianna were texting back and forth during your guy's nap time, we scheduled an early evening/after nap play date in our backyard :)

Mommy had the crock pot of food cooking, so when you two awakened from your naps, Bodhi, you at your on pace, came downstairs and ate dinner.  When Aunt Dianna, Dakota, Nathan, Norah, and Rowan arrived, we tried to get you, Jude, to go outside to play while your sister was finishing her dinner, but you decided to be Mr. Shy Guy :)  We eventually made our way outside and you all ran around playing, Bodhi and Jude, you did not share well tonight :(  Sister Kelly and Brother Aaron showed up, and Mommy had /Brother Aaron help me put our outdoor dining table and benches in our garage.  Aunt Dianna, with Rowan strapped to her back, insisted on helping as well, ugggh!  Mommy tried to keep her from helping, but she like Mommy is stubborn.  Mommy and Daddy had planned to do this once Daddy arrived home from work, so Mommy got to surprise Daddy that it was all done, and Mommy can now park her car in on of our two garages :)  Sister Kelly bought you, Bodhi, a Hello Kitty hat and mitten set, Jude, Sister Kelly and Brother Aaron didn't think you would wear the Spider Man face mask so they didn't get you a set, but when you said you wanted it, Sister Kelly assured you she'd get you one... you big sucker.

After a while of playing outdoors, and after Aunt Dianna tried figuring out what is going on with Mommy's camera, Aunt Dianna and her troop headed home to enjoy a family dinner.  Mommy tried feeding them, but Aunt Dianna insisted that she had to make her husband dinner since he worked from home, ha!  Aunt Dianna is much nicer than Mommy!  Mommy hates to cook, had it been Daddy, Daddy would have been figuring out his own dinner hee/hee

All you need is love...

You and me together...
Bodhi, you always zone out at some portion of a song, you just smile. :) Mommy always wants to know what you are thinking :)

Sisterly love ha/ha  Buddha, you have actually claimed that hair bow ha/ha!

The Sunday After

Well, we enjoyed an incredible gathering of family and friends and celebration and fellowship last night. Today, we look forward to rejoining with our precious Gypsy Princess and Viking Prince. We learned a couple of times last night that you struggled with your overnight with GiGi and GiPa, Miss Emilia. GiGi was so worried, though she stuck it out with you and eventually you settled inJ. Buddha, Grandma reported you awakened several times throughout the night, but overall managed being away fairly well. We knew it would be hard on both of you, and us!

Daddy tried to do much of the after-celebration clean-up late last night, but Mommy finished up that task this morning. Afterwards, Mommy and Daddy made our way to the Leeds Street house to finish removing some things in anticipation of our closing early next week. Mommy blessed the house for its new owners, and Daddy returned home to clean up and Mommy headed over to Grandma’s to get our Viking Prince and meet with GiGi to get our Gypsy Princess.

When everyone got home, we celebrated our reunion and settled in for a long afternoon nap, we all proved to be exhausted from the previous evening! After our nap, Mommy made us a delicious dinner and then we settled in the living room for some family time and television viewing. Around 8:30 p.m. Mommy made off with the two of you for a bath and preparation for bedtime. Daddy’s back and neck have been aching so terribly much, that after some medicine Daddy lay down on a living room couch and frankly was down for the countJ!

Mommy loved and nurtured the two of you, as only a Mommy can, and prepared you to settle in for an evening of rest in your own beds in your own beautiful home. Those are, indeed, beautiful words---home, sweet, home. We have a beautiful home, a beautiful family, and a beautiful future. And now, we are enjoying the now.

Love, love, love  “night, night” everyone!

Open House Saturday

Today is our busy day of preparation for our open house. Mommy and Daddy spent the morning huggin’ and kissin’ our babies, ‘cause we knew we would be “shipping you both out” at noon to spend the night with Grandma (Buddha) and GiGi (Bodhi). Though we both look forward to our evening with friends and celebrating Mommy’s Master’s Degree achievement and putting Mommy’s creative genius in decorating our home on display, we know we will be having withdrawal missing our Princess and Prince!

Mommy busied herself with last minute cleaning, and she had a list for Daddy to complete as well. So, we worked, and we worked, and we worked…J.

Come evening time, we were settled with fresh homemade potato soup, cheeses and crackers, grapes, tortilla chips, fancy little turkey treats,  rum cake, and miniature cupcakes (cupcakes courtesy of Sister Kelly). We also offered a broad range of wine and beer imported from Baltimore (where Daddy went to Graduate School at The Johns Hopkins University---one of two beers famously reminiscent of Daddy’s hard studies---Schaffer beer (courtesy of Brother Aaron and Brother Cory), the other beer is National Bohemian---but we can’t find it anywhere close to usL).
The memorable story of the rum cake will always be this: Mommy and Buddha come downstairs after awakening (Mommy was up until 2:00 a.m. making two rum cakes, one of which turned out a presentation disaster, as it crumbled when she attempted to place it on a plate, the other one turned out perfect and was on display in our beautiful dining room). They both notice that Bodhi is hiding under a blanket, so they pretend not to know where she is and start calling out her name. They walk into the dining room, and Mommy instantly notices the rum cake clear glass cover is off the cake and a chunk is missing from the top as though someone had just dipped a small hand into it---and yes! When Mommy, with a confused Buddha following on her heels, goes into the living room and lifts the blanket, she discovers Princess Bodhi eating rum cake!!! J.
Oh my golly!! JJ!! JJJ

We enjoyed (in spite of the raid on the rum cake) a wonderful evening with Rita and Terry, Vivian and Rudy, Judy and Sarge, Sharon and Hawk, Marcia and Jerry, Anabel and Charlie, Jane and Gary, Sister Kelly and Brother Aaron, Brother Sean Franky, Susan, Ray, Gabby, and Janet, Hope, and Jerry Hurlock. Mommy and Daddy shared concerns for those invited that didn’t make it to the open house, still we enjoyed a wonderful evening of fellowship, friendship, and delightful conversations! Mommy’s famous potato soup became more famous and yielded calls for recipes that Daddy is charged with delivering.  Mommy was graciously given some beautiful gifts from our wonderful guests, and though exhausted when the evening ended, we were moved to plan another get-together of our family and friends, with hopes we can all make it for an opportunity to give thanks for true friends and recognize our many blessings!

“Night, night,” family and friends, and especially “night, night” with all our love little Emilia and Jude. We thoroughly enjoyed our festive evening, and we anxiously await tomorrow to be with our precious babies!!!

Friday Frenzy

We are getting down to it, the last day before our party!  You two awakened on the wrong side of the bed/crib ha/ha  Mommy needed a shower and needed to get some items from the store (on a tight budget), but you two were not in the mood.  Mommy decided you two would take a morning bath, maybe that would wash off some of the crankies hee/hee and it worked!  You two played in the bath while I got cleaned up. Bodhi, you played in the bath for an hour and a half!!!  Jude, you wanted out after only about 15 minutes.  Mommy pointed out to you, Ms. Bodhi, that your fingers and feet were wrinkled, you said, "ewwww," but insisted on staying in a while longer.

After we were all cleaned up, and after you had a meltdown about wearing clothes, Ms. Bodhi, we headed to Hobby Lobby to check out their clearance section for some plates, napkins, cups, etc...  We found what we needed, but you two also found a little treat you wanted for yourselves.  Bodhi, you were an angel, Buddha, you were a terror.  You managed to redeem yourself toward the end, in time to earn a treat.  Mommy had told you you weren't getting anything.  You are having major temper tantrums lately.  Mommy just ignores you and lets you have your full on tantrums, to which you then start yelling, "Mommy don't leave me."  What a sight we were.  All the other shoppers, I'm certain, thought Mommy was probably a horrible Mommy hee/hee especially when you were yelling, "don't leave me Momma, don't leave me!"  From Hobby Lobby, we headed to Sams Club to pick up some food.  Daddy met us there and we together enjoyed some samples and completed our mission.  Buddha, you were once again in rare form, well, not so rare these days.  Mommy told Daddy he could take you guys home and I'd pay and load up our goods.  Bodhi, you wanted to stay with Momma, so you helped Momma check-out and pay for our items.  Mommy is loving what a Momma's girl you've turned into :)

Once home, we all took an afternoon nap... longer than Mommy had wanted.  Daddy got busy on some yard work, and Mommy took care of the two of you, making dinner and getting things done here and there.  Sister Kelly stopped by with cupcakes for Mommy's party, and picked out an outfit she needed for a wedding she's attending tomorrow.  You two visited with Sister Kelly, Brother Franky, and eventually Brother Aaron.  Sister Kelly hung the curtains from our old house in your room Bodhi.  You now have princess curtains :)  They are wrinkled from Mommy washing them ha/ha, but they are up!

After dinner and play time, you two went to bed.  Bodhi, you got back up however... you said, "Mommy, I can't sleep."  You watched as Mommy was making potato soup, and rum cakes for our party tomorrow.  OH, I forgot to mention, when we were shopping, Mommy had told you both we had to get some items for Mommy's and Daddy's party, and you two then started calling the party, "Mommy's tea party."  I don't know where you two come up with this stuff ha/ha.  Anyway, you, Bodhi, asked Mommy if I was making "Hello Kitty Rum cake for my tea party."  You were having a blast watching Mommy run around with my head cut off...Mommy's not much of a cook or a baker :)  We were having fun until curiosity got the best of you, Bodhi.  You decided you were going to touch the stove for the first time, something you never do, and something Mommy never worries about you doing.  You cried like I've never seen you cry.  It absolutely broke my heart.  You were in shock, you were hurting, and you kept saying, "Mommy, my finger is hot!" Mommy got a bowl of ice and put a bandaid on it, per your request, and then I set you up in the front room.  You decided to watch "Babe" and you kept your finger in the ice.  Mommy felt bad for your finger, but then I felt really guilty about you watching "Babe," as I fried two pounds of bacon to put on top of the potato soup.  Two bowl of ice later, you were sound asleep on the couch.  Buddha, you had awakened and Daddy took you in Mommy's and Daddy's bed. You and Daddy were passed out with the news on.  Mommy baked and cooked until 1am.  After which I did manage to get the kitchen cleaned up.  Mommy then went to bed on the other couch, across from you, Bo.

Sweet dreams my sweet sweet babes!  You both are excited about your overnight slumber parties with Grandmoo and GiGi tomorrow :)

Hello November!

Typically Thursdays are one of two of Mommy's work days, however, Mommy's visit was cancelled and so Mommy and Grandmoo planned a surprise Grandmoo treat :)  Grandmoo wanted the two of you for a few hours since Mommy didn't have to work outside the home hee/hee This gave Momma some much needed time to work on our house for our upcoming Graduation/Fall Open House Celebration, and Grandmoo got a short and sweet little visit with the two of you.

Mommy and Daddy have been going at it, working on organizational projects, clean-up, etc... Our house is beautiful, and we are truly blessed, but this scheduled party has made Mommy and Daddy tidy up the little projects we've yet to finish.  Don't worry, Mommy has big plans for the future of our home ha/ha that will be never ending, but we want to show off what we've managed to accomplish in a year, plus everyone, especially Daddy's best friends, have been chomping at the bit to get a looksy at our new house... for the past year :)

You two played your little hearts out with Grandmoo, that is nothing new.  Grandmoo was shocked that you, Jude, said, "on guard" when sword fighting with Grandmoo.  Grandmoo said Great Papaw and her taught that to you when Great Papaw was here visiting, and you actually remembered :)  Bodhi, you were pulling out some big words during your visit... Grandmoo was shocked with your new and growing vocabulary :)  While you two were playing, Mommy moved all of our belongings from our old house (across the street from Grandmoo) to our house.  Mommy and Daddy will have to go back Sunday to clean out the basement :)  So happy we got our house sold, I just wish it wasn't on contract...but I think it's going to work out for everyone (fingers crossed).

PS Mommy's camera seems to have broken :(.... Mommy is going to have Aunt Dianna down the street take a look at it.  She seems to think Mommy's just a ditz hee/hee
